THE VOLCANIC CIRCUIT:
COLCA VALLEY - VOLCANOES VALLEY

The Volcanic Circuit joins the valleys of Colca and the valley of the volcanoes in a visit of 4 days and more than 650 kilometers of route. On this tour we will visit the Colca Valley, famous for its agricultural terraces and for its canyon, considered the deepest in the world, where we can enjoy the flight of the majestic Condor. We will also visit a newly constructed road that joins the two valleys crossing by the deeper part of Colca Canyon. We will see the Mamacocha Lagoon, one of the largest sources in the world. Dwarf volcanoes 80 meters high on average, lava flows of slag, we will taste the typical products of the region and finally we will make better known the Pisco, our flagship drink.

PROGRAM:

1st day

  • Departure to the Colca Valley. Passing through the north-west of the city until arriving at the nature reserve created above 3800 meters. Here you will enjoy one of the most beautiful animals in Peru, wild vicuñas in their natural habitat, and also llamas and alpacas. Stop to observe these animals and also mountain ecosystems such as swamps and pajonales.

  • Arrival in the village of Chivay. Lunch and installation at the hotel.

  • Afternoon devoted to rest and to explore the area.

  • (Optional) Hike in the village of Chivay, 1 hour and a half walk. Possibility to visit hot springs.

  • Overnight in Chivay.

2nd day

  • Early departure for the Condor viewpoint. We will cross the Colca Valley making a few stops on the road to admire the pre-Inca and Inca agricultural terraces that the inhabitants of the region have been building for hundreds of years and still use today to cultivate their food.

  • In the Condor viewpoint area, we will stop to appreciate the flight of this majestic bird (depending on weather conditions). Possibility of a short walk following the edge of the canyon.

  • Then, we head towards the village of Ayo (about 3 hours drive), on the way we will see the villages of Cabanaconde and Huambo, traditional villages located in the upper part of the Colca canyon.

  • We will take a newly built route that allows us to visit the deepest area of ​​Colca Canyon and connect it to the Valley of the Volcanoes.

  • Arrive at Ayo village for lunch at a local restaurant. Installation in the homes of residents.

  • In the afternoon, we can visit the ruins of Maucallacta, an ancient village of which only the remains of its stone-built houses remain. Dinner in a local restaurant.

  • Night in a homestay.

3rd day

  • Breakfast in Ayo and then we will start a walk of about 1 hour and a half to the lagoon of Mamacocha. A spectacular oasis in the middle of a desert of red volcanic lava, the road is so spectacular that it is thought to be on another planet. Here we will spend the morning enjoying the place.

  • We will have lunch in this beautiful place and then we will start the way back to Ayo to collect our things and leave for the village of Andagua.

  • On the way we will visit the Andaymarca belvedere, a place from where you can admire the wonderful landscape made up of slag lava flows of different colors and small domes of ancient volcanoes that adorn the whole area.

  • We will arrive at the village of Andagua, located in the center of the valley of the volcanoes. Here we can visit the twin volcanoes. Small domes of extinct volcanoes adorning the bedside of the village.

  • We will climb about 60 meters, from the top we will have a different view of the region, because here agriculture has flourished and the landscape is covered with agricultural terraces, fields of crops and cattle.

  • Dinner in a local restaurant.

  • Night in a homestay.

4th day

  • On this last day, early in the morning, we will leave for the valley of Majes.

  • We will go through a recently paved road, next to the snow capped Coropuna mountain, we will stop at the highest point to make a small offering to the mountain.

  • We will continue our visit to the village of Aplao.

  • Breakfast in a local restaurant.

  • Along the way we will stop at a Pisco winery, where we will know a little more about the Peruvian flagship drink, Pisco. We can taste the different varieties of pisco and buy certain products if you want.

  • After this stop, we will continue directly to the city of Arequipa, the arrival is scheduled between 5 and 7 p.m.
