Circuit: Arequipa - Coporaque -
          Chimpa - Cabanaconde

À 8 km du centre-ville, avec une extension de 18 km de long, se trouve le ravin d'Añashuayco d'où on extrait le matériau que les espagnols ont utilisé pour construire la ville.

Encore aujourd'hui on peut voir comme les ouvriers extraient le matériau en utilisant des outils rustiques et sa force physique.

Sillar est le nomme que, par tradition, nous avons donné à ce matériau qu'on peut voir dans pratiquement tous les constructions religieuses et civils dans le centre historique d'Arequipa.

PROGRAM:

1st day

  • Departure towards the Colca valley. Passing through the north-west of the city until arriving at the nature reserve created above 3800 meters. Here you will enjoy one of the most beautiful animals in Peru, wild vicuñas in their natural habitat, and also llamas and alpacas. Stop to observe these animals and also mountain ecosystems such as swamps and pajonales.

  • Arrival in the village of Coporaque. Lunch and installation at homestay.

  • Afternoon devoted to rest and to explore the area.

  • (Optional) Hike in the village of Coporaque to visit the necropolis of Yuraccacca, 1 hour and a half walk. Possibility to visit hot springs.

  • Dinner and overnight in Coporaque.

2nd day

  • Departure towards the canyon by the right bank of the valley, visit of some villages such as Yanque, Lari and Madrigal.

  • Hike to the fortress of Chimpa, it is a pre-Inca fortress built by the Collagua people, strategically located on the slope of the mountain at the beginning of the canyon. It is reached with a climb of about 2 hours (between 4 hours and 5 hours in total, 600 meters of vertical drop).

  • For lunch we will have a packed lunch.

  • Arrival at the village of Cabanaconde. Installation in the hotel.

  • Dinner and overnight in Cabanaconde.

3rd day

  • Breakfast in Cabanaconde and departure to the Mirador Cruz del Condor, first part of the canyon, to observe, weather permitting, the flight of the condors. Then return to the village of Chivay, on the route, visit some villages along the valley and stop at several natural viewpoints.

  • Lunch in Chivay and visit of the small local market.

  • Return to Arequipa.
