Circuit: The "Colcas" of Pumunuta
Arequipa - Canocota -
Yanque / Coporaque - Chivay

A circuit that allows us to live a unique experience to share with locals, in the Colca Valley, the first night in the village of Canocota, at homestay, and the second one at a hotel, either in the village of Yanque or in the village of Coporaque.

Canocota is a small village located on the right bank of the valley, 60 km from Chivay where there is a family that has bet on tourism by welcoming visitors.

The "Colcas" are constructions made by the ancients to store different products, these were made to store seeds and food.

Coporaque is located on the left bank of the valley 20 km from Chivay, a larger and imposing village where the first Spaniards settled in 1540 and where the first chapel built in the area is located.

Yanque is located on the right bank of the valley 24 km from Chivay, a very nice village with an imposing central square and unique archaeological sites in the valley.

PROGRAM:

1st day

  • Departure to the Colca Valley. Passing through the north-west of the city until arriving at the natural reserve created above 3800 meters. Here you will enjoy one of the most beautiful animals in Peru, wild vicuñas in their natural habitat, and also llamas and alpacas. Stop to be able to observe these animals and also mountain ecosystems such as swamps and pajonales.

  • Then continue our ascent by taking the long road to the valley, we will appreciate a geological formation known as the Colca window. Afterwards we will know a very important archaeological site because it is one of the first places where camelids were domesticated, it is the shelter of Mollepunku, on the walls we will see prehistoric drawings made by the first inhabitants 8000 years ago ( * ).

  • Lunch in the village of Sibayo located upstream of the Colca valley.(*)

  • Afterwards we will continue towards the village of Canocota for the installation at homestay. Possibility to visit the hot springs.

  • Dinner and overnight at homestay.

2nd day

  • Departure towards the village of Tuti (3850 msnm), hike of about 4 hours (there and back) to visit the Colcas de Pumunuta, taking a moderate climb. After the descent, lunch in Tuti. Possibility to visit hot springs in Chivay.

  • Transfer to the village of Coporaque / Yanque. Installation at the hotel.

  • Dinner and overnight in Coporaque / Yanque.

3rd day

  • Departure to the Mirador Cruz del Condor, first part of the canyon, to observe, weather permitting, the flight of condors. Then return to the village of Chivay, on the route, visit some villages along the valley and stop at several natural viewpoints.

  • Lunch in Chivay and visit of the small local market.

  • Back to Arequipa, it takes only 3 hours.
